Pitcorthie is a lovely secluded estate of some 50 acres which lies just inland from Elie (3m, shops, pubs, restaurants) in the picturesque East Neuk of Fife. At the end of a short drive, and with a lovely open aspect to the front over a grassy quadrangle, Pitcorthie Cottage has been converted with great sympathy and imagination from the old stable block and now offers bright and airy holiday accommodation within, combined with a real 'roses round the door' appearance without.
The refurbishment has been carried out to a very high standard - there are beautiful light oak floors throughout; the spacious open plan living area is extremely comfortable, with a living flame gas fire, a generous dining area and a very well equipped kitchen. The master bedroom is large and airy.
There is parking right at the door, guests have the use of the lawned area in front of the cottage, and access to the (at present rather elderly) tennis court beyond the 'big house' can also be arranged.
The area has so much to offer the visitor that it is difficult to know where to begin. The fact that St Andrews, with its lovely sands, historic university, ruined castle and cathedral, and (perhaps most importantly!) its legendary golf courses, is only 8 miles away, has to be a major attraction. The quaint little fishing villages along the coast will be another. Inland, the likes of Kellie Castle with its lovely gardens, Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit, Mary Queen of Scots' fairytale palace at Falkland, and even, though in a completely different way, Scotland's Secret Bunker near Anstruther, will prove irresistible to those interested in history. Those who wish to range further afield, will find good road connections to Perth (36m) to the north, while a day trip to Edinburgh, either by car (42m) or by train from Markinch (11m) is perfectly feasible.
There are lots of other golf courses in the immediate area, beautiful coastal walks, an adventure playground, miniature railway, boating, crazy golf etc. at Craigtoun Country Park (10m) - in fact all the ingredients for a holiday which can be as active or as relaxing as you like.
There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area, but if the kitchen-slave at home feels like a holiday too without leaving the premises, highly recommended meals at the cottage can be arranged for your arrival, or ordered during the course of your stay.
Heating is by gas central heating and gas fire (first £10 INCLUDED). The first £10 of electricity is INCLUDED. Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Wireless Broadband is available.
