Sandpiper is a quite excellent, traditional , stone built, former fisherman's cottage less than a minute's walk from the beach and harbour in the village of Cellardyke in the picturesque East Neuk of Fife. Cellardyke is very much quieter than its near neighbour Anstruther, ('sleepy' just about covers it) and somehow more tradtional too with plenty of local colour. There is an excellent pub which serves meals just round the corner.
Sandpiper stands in a peaceful courtyard setting, where there is secure storage for golf equipment and cycles, and inside has been modernised and refurbished to the highest standards. The accommodation is on two levels, with, downstairs, a well equipped dining kitchen and bathroom, and upstairs, a bright and cosy sitting room and two bedrooms, one double and one with bunk beds. Gas fired central heating (INCLUDED) ensures guests' comfort all year round.
There is no lack of things to do here for guests of all ages. Walkers will enjoy the coastal path, which offers miles of stunning scenery. Canoeing, kayaking, abseiling, mountain biking and other activities are offered by 'East Neuk Outdoors' in Cellardyke. Then of course there are the famous and excellent Fife golf courses, from prestigious St Andrews (9m) down to the excellent local courses where the moderate charges and quiet fairways are a source of wonder to those coming from the crowded south.
If you can drag the kids away from the beach, there is also much of interest inland. (Bribe them with a visit to the Scottish Deer Park or Scotland's Secret Bunker, a unique legacy of the Cold War!) Kellie Castle, Hill of Tarvit, Falkland Palace are all within easy reach and well worth visiting. Or take a boat trip from nearby Elie out into the Firth of Forth and visit the seabird colonies on the Isle of May.
Cellardyke has pubs and restaurants, while the livelier village of Anstruther is within walking distance. It has a range of cafés and pubs, as well as the best fish and chip shop in Scotland. That's at least one meal taken care of then!
Heating and electricity, bed linen and towels are all INCLUDED. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
