On the hillside above Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire, just 5 miles from Killin, and with heavenly views across the Loch to the mountains of Breadalbane beyond, is Kiltyrie Cottage, a most elegant conversion of an old farm building which now provides stylish and extremely comfortable holiday accommodation.
The owners, who live next door, have tried to think of everything that would make a stay at Kiltyrie Cottage as memorable as possible and, internally, it more than matches the excellence of its situation. The large sitting room has two sets of French doors to the front overlooking the loch, and there is a spacious reception area open plan to the well fitted kitchen dining room. Upstairs, there are two large bedrooms and a bathroom. There is also a wide and charming landing with a Juliet balcony, again overlooking the loch - a lovely place to sit with a book or to watch the changing light on the water.
Loch Tay is not just a scenic, but also a very central location for touring in all directions and for activities. The Loch has watersports galore and for those of a more historical bent, an Iron Age crannog in the loch at the pretty village of Kenmore at the eastern end. There are golf courses at Kenmore and Killin, horse riding just down the road, and you are spoiled for choice when it comes to hill walking. At Kiltyrie you are, in fact, on the lower slopes of Ben Lawers itself, with many other challenging heights in close proximity.
Killin is in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and is about 1.5 hours drive from Oban on the west coast. To the north east, there is the Tay Forest Park, Aberfeldy (all facilities) and Pitlochry with its Festival Theatre, or for more lochs and mountains try Glen Lyon, Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch. There is surely too much to do here in a single week!
Killin has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Bed linen and towels, heating and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental. One well-behaved pet is welcome by arrangement.
