The Ledlanet Estate has a splendidly central position near Kinross, which contrives to be most peaceful and rural, accessed by a quiet country lane, and yet is just a few minutes from the M90 Perth-Edinburgh motorway. The Lodge dates from about 1900 when the drive to Ledlanet House was constructed and sits on rising ground, with fine south facing views over the Kinross-shire countryside. The cottage has a most attractive grass garden to the side (furniture, barbecue), with a stream running through it, where children can play and adults sit in the sun and read or enjoy an evening drink.
Inside, the Lodge has been completely refurbished and is light, bright, comfortable and surprisingly spacious, while retaining all its original character. The attractive sitting room has an open fire. With a double bedroom and wet room downstairs, it also is well suited to guests of limited mobility. It is, in short, an ideal base for a relaxing holiday, with a host of attractions within easy reach.
The owners breed Highland cattle, some of which you are bound to see if you take advantage of some of the excellent walks which range over the estate. You are also welcome to fish on the estate loch by arrangement. Golfers will find themselves with the temptation of Gleneagles, St Andrews, and Carnoustie, all of which can be easily accessed from the cottage. Those not aiming quite so high will find plenty of excellent local courses where they can test their skill.
Wild life abounds on the estate, and bird lovers are within a few miles of the RSPB Reserve at Vane Farm, excellent for wetland birds. Also close by is Loch Leven, with its ruined castle on an island in the loch, where Mary Queen of Scots was held captive. Boat trips will take you out there from Kinross. Mary's fairytale castle at Falkland is a 20 minute drive, and beyond there is the whole Kingdom of Fife, with its wonderful beaches, quaint fishing villages, and of course, historic St Andrews itself to explore.
To the north, the attractive city of Perth (all facilities, theatre, leisure centre etc) is half an hour away, with Scone Palace just two miles beyond. The fast A9 will take you from there up to Aviemore, the Cairngorms and Inverness within a couple of hours. Stirling, with its castle and Wallace Monument is certainly worth a visit. Children will enjoy a visit to the Blair Drummond Safari Park and Deep Sea World, both within an hour's drive.
Bed linen, towels heating and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental. Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted in the cottage. There is secure storage for golf equipment and even cycles. Please note the cottage is on a private water supply, which is regularly tested.
