Pitnacree is a gracious mansion house in Strathtay, Perthshire, 4 miles west of the A9 at Ballinluig and 7 miles east of Aberfeldy (shops, hotels, swimming-pool, etc.). Beautifully and peacefully situated on a hillside overlooking the River Tay and its valley, it offers its self-contained East Wing looking out onto one of the manicured lawns (garden furniture) as a holiday accommodation for those who like to have a bit more space and would enjoy a taste of country-house living.
Furnished in the style of 'the big house', with the freedom of most of the grounds of the Estate, it includes (by arrangement) the free use of the tennis court; and (at cost) salmon-fishing for one rod on the River Tay, at the foot of the drive.
The river here is one of the prime sites in Scotland for white water kayaking. There are often competitions to watch from the bridge, or why not bring your own canoe and try for yourself? There is a choice of excellent golf courses in the area and this is wonderful walking country. Just beyond Aberfeldy is Loch Tay, with water sports and the famous replica Iron Age crannog in the loch- definitely worth a visit with lots of hand-on opportunities for children. Pitlochry, a busy tourist town with a Festival Theatre and all facilities, is only 8 miles away.
As far as touring is concerned, you could hardly be more central, just 25 miles north of Perth, and not far from the fast A9, which will take you to Aviemore, the Cairngorms and Inverness in well under two hours. Or, from Pitlochry too, you can strike across the hill to Braemar and beautiful Royal Deeside.
Strathtay has a general store and there is a hotel on the other side of the river at Grandtully (pronounced Grantly). Aberfeldy too has all facilities including a leisure centre.
Heating is by gas central-heating and electricity (gas CH INCLUDED). Bed-linen and constant hot water are INCLUDED, and towels can be hired. We regret pets are not accepted and no smoking is allowed within the house.
