West Lodge stands on its own, 50 yards from the River Tay and approximately 3 miles from both Loch Tay and Aberfeldy (shops, hotels, golf, etc.), just inside the gates to Bolfracks House, off the A827, at the side of the private drive leading up to Bolfracks House. It faces across the river to a lovely vista of hills and woodlands and is backed by the 4,000 beautiful acres of this privately-owned country Estate which tenants are welcome to roam at will.
This old stone cottage was recently restored and very tastefully furnished, and now makes a most comfortable and central holiday home in which to relax in stunning scenery (small garden with furniture/barbecue) - or from which to explore the wonderful countryside round about with its innumerable attractions. Please note tenants can enjoy free trout-fishing on the estate, and have two days free use of Aberfeldy's leisure centre (swimming pool), as well as reduced green-fees at Kenmore Golf Course. The gardens at Bolfracks House are open to the public from April to the end of October.
On Loch Tay, there are excellent facilities for water sports, or you can visit the Crannog Centre, the Iron Age stilt house in the loch. At the end of the loch is the village of Killin and the spectacular Falls of Dochart. The little village of Fortingall is also worth a visit. It is said to be the birthplace (one of the many) of Pontius Pilate, and the yew in its churchyard is over 4,000 years old! From there, you can go over the hill to Loch Tummel and admire the Queen's View. Pitlochry, with its fish ladder and famous theatre, not to mention its distillery, excellent shops and hotels is 16 miles distant while hill walkers and climbers will enjoy the challenges of nearby Ben Vrackie and Schiehallion.
Heating is by wood-burning stove (logs INCLUDED), gas-CH and electricity. Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. One dog is welcome.
