***Introductory Comments***
Welcome to the December issue of Uniquely Unspoilt.
Although many rural attractions and events in Scotland shut up shop in winter, December and January are two of the busiest months in the Scottish calendar, with Hogmanay celebrated in style from Edinburgh's international street party to events such as the Loony Dook, when the brave/foolish brave the Firth of Forth for a swim on New Year's Day, to warmer celebrations such as the Stonehaven Fireball Festival near Aberdeen.
A little less remote, the first ever Loch Ness Hogmanay Festival is being held this year, and its organisers have written this issue's guest article.
Another crucial event for Scotland just under a month later is Burns' Night held around January 25th, and this issue's main feature provides a guide to a Burns' Supper - from piping in the haggis to singing Auld Lang Syne to round off the evening.
Please feel free to send in any comments as ever.

*** Main Feature ***
~~ Burns' Night ~~
Burns? Night
Held all over the world on January 25th, Robert Burns? presumed birthday, the Burns Supper is an integral part of the Scottish calendar and has been taking place annually for around 200 years now. While events may vary in location, size and formality, what they all have in common is a food and drink-fuelled celebration of the national Bard.
Here is a brief guide to Burns? Night, should you wish to host an event yourself or even so you know what to expect if you?re attending an event for the first time...Full article>>>
***Guest Article***
Our guest article this month has been written by Mary Beedham of the Loch Ness Hogmanay Festival ? and this year is the first time the event is taking place.
Celebrations in Loch Ness will be starting on December 28th and not finishing until January 2nd, and as well as the street party on Hogmanay itself, there are plenty of other things to do for all ages including karaoke, Brazilian capoeira and much more.
~~ Loch Ness Hogmanay Festival - by Mary Beedham ~~
The Loch Ness Hogmanay Festival takes place in the centre of the picturesque village of Drumnadrochit, known world-wide for its Loch Ness Monster.
Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the festivities, with hotels, restaurants and pubs all open and waiting to welcome you to the Highland Hogmanay.
The festival begins on Tuesday 28th December 2004 and there?s sure to be something to suit everyone...Full article>>>

There are Christmas markets throughout Scotland this month, including the Holly Fest at Drum Castle in Banchory, a market in Mull as well as German markets in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and a chance to see what a Victorian Christmas would have been like, at Culzean and Brodick castles.
Next month sees the staging of the Up Helly Aa viking festival in Shetland and Celtic Connections, the established and biggest winter music festival in the World, which takes place in Glasgow.
Till next issue,
