***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to October's issue.

Well, it's definitely autumn!  A lot of people think Scotland looks at its best at this time of year, and with the golden colours, often stunning skies and fewer visitors it's pretty hard to disagree.

The skiers amoungst us will no doubt already be getting excited by the fact that the first snow has fallen in the Cairngorms, an area that forms the focus of this month's main feature - a look at Scotland's newest national park.

Our guest article this issue details the wide and far reaching range of places to see examples of great Scottish architecture.

*** Main Feature ***

~~Cairngorms National Park~~

The Cairngorms National Park opened officially last month so I thought we could pick out what we believe to be just some of the highlights.

The park is the brainchild of Liz Hanna, the great-great-granddaughter of national park 'godfather' John Muir, who was behind Yosemite and Yellowstone parks in the States, and has been set up to "conserve

***Guest Article***

This month's guest article has been provided by Dr Seán O'Reilly of  the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.  Here, he explains the amazing array of places to see examples of Scotland's rich architectural heritage, from Orkney to Stirling.

The Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland is concerned with the protection, preservation, study and appreciation of Scottish buildings and their character, which are constantly under threat and in need of
protection.

~~Scottish architecture - by Dr Seán O'Reilly ~~

Perhaps the most surprising thing for visitors to Scotland - and indeed for those who have lived here all their lives - is the sheer abundance of great Scottish architecture, whether as magnificent buildings to see or great places to visit.

Few outlying parts of Scotland have a stronger sense of place than Applecross, Wester Ross, today approachable by a stunning drive across terrain evocative of Tolkein...Full Article>>>

I hope you enjoyed this issue.

I have an idea for a future article, which is a feature on Frequently Asked Questions about Scotland.  I'd be really grateful if you'd like to send me any questions you'd like answered, or even things you may have found useful on a visit to Scotland.

As ever, article suggestions, comments and any feedback are always welcome.

Thanks,

Emma
